2008: from 3-4 to 4-3
I'm looking at the roster, the guys on missions, and our upcoming recruiting class and looking at future years.
First thing I notice is a dramatic shift in personnel from LB to DL over next few years. We graduate one scholarship DL this year and three LB's. Next year we'll graduate one DL again and 4 more LB's. We've recruited heavily last year and this next year at DL and the trend will continue. This is my projection for scholarship DL's and LB's on the roster next three years (obviously you can recruit to change it in future years). 2007 2008 2009 DL 11 9 9 LB 10 5 5 It looks like we might be positioning ourselves to move to 4-3 in 2008, and if that's not the plan, maybe it should be. We've got a bunch of young stud DL in the pipeline, with more being recruited, and not so many linebackers. example, this is the 2008 DL lineup Jorgensen Tialavea Magua (JC recruit) Foketi (JC recruit last year--now redshirting) Isley Filiaga Putnam Richardson Denney Luekenga 2009: Jorgensen Tialavea Filiaga Putnam Richardson Denney Dulan Fuga Tonga |

As the philosophy goes
If there are two positions on any football team that you can never have enough depth on it's the offensive and defensive lines.
BYU has been very smart in loading up on the recruits in these two areas in the past few years.
