Default Olympic Road Race Predictions:

Do we go with Cavendish for the men, and who for the women?

Too many hills for Cavendish, imho. Especially with the hill finish, I don't think he stands a chance.

My prediction is that creeksters man Valverde finally breaks through for the big win. He has an incredible team (Sastre, Pereiro, Contador...) and has shown that he has plenty of power (see Stage 1 TdF) in addition to being a good climber.

Shumacher is the new sexy pick, considering his TdF perormance this year, but I don't think he will be in the sprint at the finish.

Kirchen is the other guy that could be on the podium. And its hard to count out Bettini. But I'm sticking with Valverde.

Is there women's cycling at the Olympics? I hadn't noticed.

The only name that I even recognize is Kristen Armstrong. Does she stand a chance?

Does anyone know if the mens race is online anywhere tonight or do we have to take our chances with spotty coverage tomorrow?

Why not Contador?

I think he might win it.

And the women? Anybody see 49 Jeannie Longo win it?

After winning San Sebastian, I am leaning Valverde as well, but the American in me is hoping Leipheimer, Vande Velde or Hincapie do well.

What about Contador, he did afterall win the Giro and is the real TdF defending champion?

Perhaps he's not a classics type racer.

Thats a good question. He's not getting a lot of love anywhere in Olympics predictions.

He has said several times that he is shooting for the Vuelta in a month. I just don't think he cares whether or not he wins tomorrow (tonight?).

Plus, I think this type of classics course favors someone with a little pop in their step. He is an excellent climber and a good time trialist. I just don't think he has the sprint-type of power to finish a one day ride like this one.

That is my question about him. He has done well in the Tours and He is great in the mountains but I am failing to recall a classic he has won or has a podium finish on.

That is why I am really pulling for Hincapie, all he ever wanted was to win a spring classic and he has come close. He is passed his prime but it would warm my heart for him to win. (not going to happen)
