Default The Utah loss

My biggest observation of the game is thus:

Whittingham and Ludwig demonstrated that they have coached in some big games, with some very good coahes ... their experience in managing a big rivalry game was markedly superior to that of BYU's staff.

Bronco and Anae are very good 'inexperienced' coaches who have not had those same expereinces to draw upon ... they were out-coached despite having the momentum, the two teams talent wise are a wash.

All this being said, I would rather have Anae over Ludwig -I hope Ludwig coaches the utes for some time to come  And yes I would rather have Bronco, for the simple reason that he chose to hire Anae whereas his counterpart in SLC chose to bring in Ludwig (Ute fans should note that I watched nearly evry Utah game that was on Gameplan)

Overall I am pleased with this season, and yes there is a marked difference in the play of this team from the sad years under Crowton.

to be honest, I place much of the blame for some of this teams woes this season on the shoulders of Beck, while recognizing that a first year OC made the mistake of putting games in Beck's hands to begin with.

Oh, and we can't forget fielding, quite possibly, the worst corners in the history of Div I college football!

I think it is easy to bash Ludwig based on his history of Oregon and Utah's struggles this year, but he really did not do that poor of a job. In fact against BYU he did a great job, which you seem to acknowledge in your post. I also will say after the first BYU game I thought Anae was terrible, but he showed that he was able to improve as the season went on.

I'm not sure who is the better OC in the long term.

Default ....

its my opinion that anae did in fact get better as the season went on especially after the san diego state game, due to the fact he lost some of his control as an oc.

Default He lost some control?

Explain please. Does this mean Lance Reynolds has more of a say? If so, that is a good thing, IMO. The guy has the most coaching experience and SHOULD be making significant contributions on both sides of the ball as well as in game adjustments and preparation.

Also, regarding Ludwig, I only watched the SDSU v. Utah game. I don't know that Ludwig screwed up as much as his players made a number of boneheaded mistakes in that one. On the season, I had heard that a number of their losses came on last second fumbles or miscues. Perhaps Ludwig doesn't have a disciplined offense and that is a reflection of it but it may be too early to tell.

Both staffs get a similar grade on the season. I'm glad we have Bronco. He is the kind of Head Coach that the program needed.

On Bronco, I think it's too early to judge this season. I think his first season doesn't end until LOI day. (Last February doesn't count because he had just been thrust into the job)

The good thing is, by getting a bunch of commitments from the talented LDS guys, he can focus on a few others - why waste time during recruiting season going after the LDS guys?

The thing is, up until the Lobo game Utah's offense had really began clicking. The bottom fell out after the SDSU game and they put up solid numbers against UNLV and then Wyoming. In fact in the first half of the New Mexico game Utah was on pace for another 40+ points. Something happened in the second half (not all Ludwig's fault) and the Utes offense stalled.

If Utah's point production mirrored that of their offense production, they would have only had one or two losses in the season. That said, I'll give Ludwig next year to get everything worked out and if Utah still struggles, I'll say it's time for him to leave.
