When God selects his apostles, he is not selecting from a pool that includes all adult males in the church.

He is selecting from a pool of men that the current apostles personally know.

We've actuallly come a long a way from the nepotism that was previously present (before McKay's selection).

Ours is not to question why but to do or die.

We should just acknowledge, we will be bored, do our work, and be glad we have little or no contact to the bureaucracy except as Ward or Stake Clerks. If you were a local IBM distributor, would who was on the Board of Directors really matter? All that would matter would be if you met or exceeded expectations.

Again the large bureaucracy is not there for you or me. And the leaders are just donating lots of time, which you and I don't have to donate. I will expect nothing henceforth but will do my small part.

I watched the press conference and thought it was a great response. He also pointed out the diversity in the 70 -- called it an "underreported story" or words to that effect.

When I reported who the new apostle was to my wife, her response, "another lawyer from Utah?" They keep receiving the same question and now each newly called apostle has a prepared response why only Utahns are called.

Elder Christofferson had not lived in Utah since he was 15 years old until he was called as a GA. I hardly would call that a Utahn.

Only lawyers from Utah, except for the last 3 called.

Quentin Cook, lawyer from CA
David Bednar, educator from AR
Dieter Uchtdor, pilot from Germany

Perhaps your wife should pay closer attention.

The California lawyer also had Utah ties.

Uchtdorf is the outlier and he's still a white guy from the conservative theological camp.

Bednar is ultra conservative.

So we won't have anybody. But in a sense, I'm at peace with it, because at this point in my life, our own faith is what matters, not who are administrative leaders are.

what's all this I hear about Bednar being very conservative. What does that mean? Does that mean he supports right-wing policies? Is he a mullah on Mormon-cultural things?

I'm not sure what you guys mean by it.

I think it is inferred by some from this talk:

http://speeches.byu.edu/htmlfiles/Be...d_05_2005.html

It has the famous multiple earring example.

Also, some have cited this Ricks college address by his wife:

Wow. That's quite a talk.

She even worked in the "boiling frog" parable. (they should test this myth on mythbusters - that would be an awesome episode).
