Sounds like a sticky mess. I'll stick with the Reuben.

I love Euro sandwiches. A bagette, some kind of smoked meat (usually ham or dry salami), butter and/or cheese, and little or nothing else. I grew up on them as a child in Brazil.

The bagette has to be crispy, goddamnit. If it's soft it's not a bagette.

For hot dog lovers, there's nothing like "le hot dog" in France. Hot dog, French cheese, some kind of delicious onion sauce, inside of a fresh bagette.

Ooh. I did like the sandwiches in France. I almost forgot how good they were. It's hard to remember sandwiches though when all you can think about are their chocolates and pastries.

It has taken me awhile to appreciate a good sandwich. When I was little, my mom would pack pb and honey sandwiches in my lunch. The problem? She made them on thick slices of dry, heavy homemade wheat bread, and put natural peanut butter (she drained the oil, so it was very dry) and a little honey on them. Not good. I had better luck when she made onigiri or a bento box type lunch.

For a good sandwich, the bread is as important as anything you put on it. With all the Vietnamese immigrants here, they've invented this Vietnamese sandwich that's pretty good. Crusty baguette, deli meat, vegetables that are slightly pickled in a fish sauce/vinegar/soy mixture and hot peppers.

Fusion. Bypoduct of French colonialism. Vietnamese sandwiches are great.

Hehe. Fusion. As a Utah grad, I bet you like that fusion sandwich cold. Maybe with bread made from Fleischman yeast.

I love Vietnamese sandwiches. I found a place here in Portland that has great sandwiches for only $2.50.
