Default Students are protesting the honor code at both BYU-I and BYU

When I was at BYU, you couldn’t have a protest unless you had an approved permit to protest. Otherwise, you could be sanctioned and punished.

The big protest of my time was the museum fiasco with the Rodin sculptures.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

I’ve long advocated for the honor code to be an actual honor code. Meaning voluntary. If it is not voluntary, change the name of it to “Code of Conduct.” And make no pretense of it being an honor code.

When I think of all the ways trying to be admitted to BYU and attending BYU could go wrong, it makes my head hurt. Really makes me wonder if I should really put my eggs in that basket. Having a bishop or Seminary teacher who doesn’t like my kids could effectively ban them from BYU, even if everything else was kosher. You can’t depend on it. And who knows, maybe that is a blessing.
