Default Is there a single good restaraunt in Provo/Orem?

I don't eat at steakhouses, so maybe there is good one of those, but I don't care.

Serious question. Is there a single good restaurant?

What do you mean by good? If you are talking about haute cuisine, then there is not much. But there a ton of ethnic food places, etc. that are good, but not spectacular.

What are the good ethnic restaraunts?

The only place I like is Diego's Taco Shop?

btw, this is not an indictment of Provo/Orem. College STation doesn't have any good restaurants either.

My list:
Bombay House
Foundry Grill (If you count Sundance as Provo)
Tree Room (Ditto)
Restaurant Roy (I think it changed names?)
Tepanyaki Japanese Steakhouse
Ottavio's
Buona Vita

Call it bad taste if you will, but I really liked those restaurants.

I think I have only been to Bombay House and Ottavio's, from that list.

Is Ottavio's that place close to downtown Provo, that serves Italian?

I wonder if I would still like Bombay House, now that my palette has expanded a bit. I liked that rose milk drink. It's hard to screw up Indian food.

Ottavio's is that place.

There is also a pretty good Thai place on 300 south and about 500 east. I think it's called the Thai Pepper.

Although Provo isn't known for it's "good" restaurants, it does have a couple of great hamburger joints. Stan's on 900 East and Burger Supreme off of University Blvd will never disappoint.

Personally, I think Thai Ruby is better.

744 E 820 N. Just south of campus.

Restuarant Roy is now "The Chef's Table". We went there last November and were not impressed. The food was OK, but the quality did not match the price. The Tree Room at Sundance is much better. The pepper steak with mango chutney is awesome. So is the grilled salmon.

Bombay House is good. Ambiance is so-so, but the dishes are good.

If you are into Japanese food, Demae is pretty good. Sushi is not great, but the other dishes are good. This is not gourmet, but authentic, reasonably priced, down-to-earth Japanese.

If you like gourmet sushi, try the Happy Sumo in the Shops at Riverwoods. It is the inverse of Demae. Pretentious, higher priced, so-so regular dishes, but outstanding sushi.

As I mentioned in another thread, Thai Ruby is good.

If you like Brazilian style grill and buffet, try Tucano's at the Shops at Riverwoods. Come hungry.

Of course, we have the full array of chains (PF Changs, California Pizza Kitchen, Macaroni Grill, etc.). But I doubt that is what you were asking about.

Glad to hear you like Diego's, Mike. I know the owners and they are good people.

Ambiance is so-so? I have no idea what you're referring to, I think University Avenue is a terrific location for ethnic food. On top of that, you have a computer repair store right next door. Nothing says Indian food like a computer repair store.

While at BYU I lived on condo row right around the corner from Thai Ruby. I foolishly never stopped in.

This past summer I was in Provo for a short spell and stopped by Nico Italia. It's a pizza place that specializes in Boston style pizza and it's located where Frontier Pies used to be. I really enjoyed it.

I don't care for Happy Sumo at all. Not impressed with the sushi for the price. Besides it's a chain so I wouldn't include it in best local eats. I'd rather eat at Demae any day of the week. And Demae on Tuesday is tough to beat with half price nigiri and rolls. The hana roll is the bomb.

I like Sam Hawk for Korean and Touch of Seoul isn't bad either.

I don't know if Sweets is still open but they had ono kine Hawaiian food and you could get local stuff like lomi lomi salmon.

As far as upscale eating it's tough to beat The Tree Top or Foundy Grill as was mentioned above.

And I'll third the nomination for Diego's. Great Mexican food.
