I was reading that this gyre of plastic is not so obvious. If you were boating in it, you might not even notice the plastic, because it has broken down into such small pieces, and they are translucent. They break down to the molecular level, and are detected through water samples.

So essentially you have a an ocean of plastic. A fitting end for the earth. Plastic grocery bags littering the land and a polymer ocean.
