Default Intellectuals

What is one?

I would compare the definitions to the differences between Marx and Engels.

Marx would define his life as a struggle, and it was. He labored in poverty.

Engels was not poor, and would discuss his ideas over a bottle of fine wine.

A true intellectual to my way of thinking is more like Marx, somebody who incorporates his intellect into his entire being, not the limo liberal intellectual who finds it as another activity.

An intellectual is one who pursues logic and its rigors to explain everything. I've had friends who do this. They read the Wilson Quarterly instead of looking at National Geographic. The internalize all.

The rest of us are Engels, or limo intellectuals.

If so I lack both the limo and the intellect. I am not sure which I am farther away from the 1999 Ford Escort Wagon I drive or the mental acuity that is the functional equvalent of a mustard yellow 1978 Ford Pinto hatchback (with a rust problem).

I will never understand the characterization of liberals as anti-business or anti-financial success. It just isn't so.

What's your definition of liberal? I'd honestly like to know. I don't doubt that there are several varying definitions, but I'll admit that I prefer the anti-business and pro-huge government control definition. It helps me define my definition of libertarian being one who hates government intervention in just about anything but police and fire coverage, as well as sanitation. The stuff I don't want to do.

Don't hijack this thread from intellectual to liberal, we can do that elsewhere.

You're right. My apologies.

I really have no definition for intellectual other than those who are smarter than I in most any field of thought. Which would pretty much be most everyone.
