Thta was just about when the blood stuff started but I am confident that Lemond (and given his utter collapse in this stage also Fignon) did not use these prodcuts. At this time and before some used run of the mill drugs (amphetimines, etc.) but it was not nearly as sophisticated as it is now.

Look at Lemonds turnover and compare it to Armstrongs. Lemond had to be turning some huge gears to reach that speed with that cadence.

The only thing is they stopped the clip too early. They didn't show FIgnon when he comes across the line. He knows he has lost the jersey and he falls off his bike and collapses into a heap in tears. It is touching and pathetic all at once (pathetic because of his arrogance going into the stage).

According to Wikipedia, Lemond was pushing a 55x12, which is a big gear indeed.
