I watched that special. I thought it was a bit of a leap for him to say that the ngoma was the "descendant" of the ark - he talked as if it were a copy of it - instead, perhaps it has some similar features (such as the carrying poles), but he acted like he was looking at the actual ark.

I thought the discovery of the African tribe who are descendants of the Israelites was pretty interesting, though.

The problem is, the ark was made of wood - are there any wood artifacts around that have not rotted away in 3,500 years?

If they're wood, I stand corrected. I would think that if there's any place where ancient wood might be preserved (no BYU71 jokes here), it would be in Egypt.

However, if the ark was taken to a less arid climate, I'd guess that the chances of its preservation are severely diminished.

I honestly don't know what they're made of. I just threw that out as a possibility. Egypt is arid enough wood might survive a long time. Would encasing the wood in gold and other metals help preserve it? This just isn't my area of expertise.
