Default Sports that aren't sports?

Is NASCAR a "sport"?

Do you have to be an 'athlete' to be a NASCAR driver? I guess taking that one step further...is bowling a 'sport'? ...how about golf?

'Skill' is obviously involved in many of these 'sports'...but athletic ability?...not so sure.

I don't think you have to be any kind of an athlete to be a golfer, or bowler...but, at what point is it no longer a 'sport'?

You mean like winning the heart of a lady? It takes skill, knowledge, determination, practice, knowing exactly what and what NOT to do....and some of the guys who succeed are far from athletic.

If you can drink alcohol and get bettter at it then it isn't a sport. That has always been my rule.

Nobody has been able to convince me yet that Nascar drivers are athletes. Skilled yes, but athletes, no.

How about cheerleaders? SteelBlue has an ongoing debate with a friend about this one. She just can't convince him that they are not athletes.

Sports that aren't sports: Golf, Bowling, Darts, Billiards.

These are recreations. Not sports.

I know the golfers are bent when you say it's not a sport. Just because something is really difficult to do doesn't make it a sport.

She can't convince me that it's a sport. If you have to be good looking to make the team and your uniform/costume is a part of your "score", it just isn't a sport.

Cheerleaders are definitely "athletes." That doesn't make what they do a "sport."

I disagree with you about these - sort of. If you play a round of golf just for fun, it can be considered recreation. If you're playing it competitively, it's a sport, as it falls under the definition of what a sport is: A competitive activity in which players contend with each other according to a set of rules.

Of course, golfers don't necessarily compete against each other, but against the course, but the definition still fits.

It also depends on perspective of participation. If you play football, you are playing a sport. If you watch the sport of football, you're watching a game. Therefore, if you're playing golf, it's a sport.
