How fast could you do a 10 mile time trial?
that is pretty flat. No wind, or neutral wind (out and back).

Every once in a while I do ITTs and sometimes they are flat, but I just can't hold the 30 + mph. And if I try it too hard, I burn out and slow down quite a bit.
My goal is about 27 to 28 mph. If I can do that more consistently then I'll aim for 30. I'm not an accelerator, but I grind it once I get there. The secret to the ITT is the hour warm up beforehand. Twenty minutes slow and easy, twenty minutes of intervals, and then active recovery intervals just before you go to the starting line.

dang I would be thrilled with 25mph on my 2.6 mile interval. After just these few weeks, I'm up to about 23.5mph (there is a very small rise where I slow to about 20mph).
I couldn't even mike at 30mph for 2.6 miles. |

And for the most part, flat, nonwindy courses are a myth, of the conventional, not classical sense. Most of the courses I've been on have a steady rise in one direction or another, or have rollers. I've rarely had the pleasurable experience of a relatively flat ITT. The warm up is the key, and the willingness to suffer badly. By the end, you should sprint the last 200m accelerating from 1K on in. A well ridden ITT hurts like a son of bitch. Your lungs, legs and body will be on fire. You might even puke.
