I dunno. Palin is an example of what the left claims a woman can do, but she is not one of them and it pisses them off.

Never underestimate partisan politics.

WHat claims? That she can't have it all (good mother and VPOTUS)? I am not sure i have seen anyone make that claim, although at lunch today a partner told me his wife ( a very liberal politically active democrat) was critical of Palin for running for office when she had a child to raise. I told him that was sexist and I was shocked (and I really was) that his wife thought this. Other than that incident, I really haven't heard this articualted frequently. I was referring more tot he daughter pregnancy, lack of experience stuff.

I haven't heard anyone in the public eye say it, but have had a couple of discussions the last few days with my lefty neighbors. They don't like it when I've pointed out that Palin represents everything they believe a woman can and should be - independent, successful and not afraid to stand up to the good ol' boys. However, reading it again, I can see why you'd get the impression that I'd heard it elsewhere and that's my fault for not expounding more on it.

Living here in the Salt Lake area, I've never heard anything like that in church. But then, I tend to not talk politics with many of my ward members because we have more important things to discuss - like how the Utes are doing in football.

Then you haven't looked hard enough. Driving around for lunch yesterday, I heard Limbaugh play several quotes from liberal media commentators doing exactly that. And then some guy (didn't catch his name) asked why we aren't asking the same questions about Obama, and isn't that sexism at play?

I frequent conservative blogs quite a bit, and have heard no such commentator. Bastions of the Religious Right like James Dobson have had nothing but positive things to say about her.

That's possible, but I think unlikely. My guess is she will give a very good speech tonight. I have watched her speaches on youtube, and watched her debates in the Alaskan primary for governor as well. She is intelligent and articulate, and I expect that will come through tonight.

I doubt very much that her speech ends any debate about her qualifications, however. She is the Harriet Miers for McCain. The more we learn about her role as mayor and governor, the less qualified she seems to be (i.e., almost no duties as mayor, not in charge of Alaskan National Guard as the campaign claimed, etc). Questions about her qualifications will persist, and the media will continue to feverishly look into her history and credentials (as they should). She is going through the entire vetting process in a condensed 2 month period. It is perfectly natural (and right) that she get a ton of scrutiny at this point, particularly given that the election is 2 months away and nobody can tell me what she stands for, other than on abortion, guns, drilling and, to an extent, gay marriage.

I don't mean to overstate it. All questions won't disappear. But she will assume the place expected for a VP candidate in the election process. And you're right, they should be making a big deal about her background, like when she plagiarized .. oh wait, that was the other guy.

It's so amusing to watch the prime advocate for the man who's accomplished *nothing try and tell an accomplished woman that she hasn't either. We'll see if the rest of the country drinks this foul Kool-Aid.

*Caveat: he's run a presidential campaign. How Presidential!
