Anyone else bothered when a player
is suspended and posters and therefor I imagine people in conversations say, "he has to be suspended because BYU has the highest moral standards of any college in America."
If Islamic Fundamentalists had a college and said a student had his hand cut off for stealing because the Islamic college has the highest moral standards of any college in America, would we all nod our heads and agree. In a conversation in Priesthood meeting I can understand the moral claim. We all sit together and agree that people who have facial hair, tatoo's, drink beer, smoke a cigarette and run through stop signs are immoral people. However, the US as a whole may not agree. Shouldn't we go a little lighter on proclaiming to the world that BYU is the most moral place in America. Taken a bit further, I guess BYU is a more moral place than the Temple or did Tonga have some of his Temple rights restricted. Why not say Tonga had to be suspended because BYU is the most restrictive and disciplined campus in America. I can live with that and it isn't offensive. You don't have to equate the discipline with some kind of moral supremecy. The sad thing about my not posting on Cougarboard anymore is these "moralists" go unchallenged. If I was a moderator on CB, I would suspend posters who throw out the "we are the most moral" phrases for 3 days for making offensive remarks. |
