do you ever get grief as a result?

If I could prevent being called RS president by wearing a paint suit now and then, you bet I would.

Anyone else not buying it when Waters talks like this? I don't think you shy away from service Mike, not one bit.

I haven't turned it down (other than slacking a bit at times in callings). But I certainly don't campaign.

I didn't really ever attend ward social activities. I don't stand up in fast and testimony meeting. I never wore a white shirt EVER. I frequently didn't wear a tie. Sometimes wore a bolo tie. Very little of my interaction with the ward indicated, I think, that I wanted a time-consuming calling of responsibility.

Unfortunately, the Lord knows the heart, and looks past the outer appearance.

I think the pants suit thing has to do with both weight and politics. Larger ladies don't look good in them. Those far along in pregnancy can't wear them. To wear my pants suit to church is to announce my alleigance to the camp of professional women (and therefore my opposition to the homebodies). This all correlates with not being a Relief Society Presidency.

I was telling these guys I have never heard or known of a RS president who was a professional (i.e. someone in a non-traditional fulltime job).

Yep.

Shooting down Utah County stereotypes is kind of a hobby of mine.

I love it. The real reason is our women are stinking FAT.

Get their asses skinny and they can wear them again.

A to tight suit just isn't very attractive on men or women but many persist on doing it. I think you've hit on the correct answer with allegiance to the camp of professional women.

I've known one. My RS president a few years ago was a single, divorced accounting professor. She was Japanese too. In most wards a pants suit is a strike against being called into an RS or YW presidency. My two piece swimsuit should seal the deal.
