Movies are better baby-sitters.

I suppose Clockwork Orange and Predator meets Alien are out of the question.

How about Unforgiven? It has a topical theme which could be tied into a gospel discussion.

Hmm, game night. Like, what kind of games? Board games?

The idea of playing games with these kids makes my brain hurt. Many of their intellectual capacities don't go far beyond "hungry hippos".

Glory Road is pretty good. I just watched it the other night for the first time and if you have some sports fans among your YM, I'm pretty sure they'd enjoy it.

I've seen people get offended by "Rudy", "The Karate Kid" etc... and at some point I just had to realize that these people probably won't watch any movies or that they just like crappy movies.
The only problem I have seen with Rudy, etc. is the language. We had a youth temple trip once (chartered bus with a TV ... who knew?) where they showed Hoosiers on the way back. I think it was only the 2nd or 3rd time that Gene Hackman said "Jesus Christ" that the YW President got up and shut it off. I can't really blame her, right after taking the kids to the temple. Can you?

Agreed.

I don't see how game night is intrinsically better than movie night.

Especially if you are trying to get the kids to plan their own activities and they choose a movie night. That was about the only reason we ever did either a movie or a game night.

Movie night is on the scene because we were going to have a scavenger hunt in the night in the ghettos of Dallas. Canceled that, and have less than a week to figure out a replacement.

Hoosiers would never have flown because the girls would have shot it down before we pushed play. There are probably 3 movies one could play that would be watchable and not contain a single swear word. That's why I hated being in charge of a movie night. You know the movie is going to suck going in.

When I was on my mission, the zone, along with the old couple, watched "A christmas story" on P-day. The old elder of the couple was laughing his head off during the whole thing, along with the rest of us.

However the next day, with his wife sternly by his side, he told us it was a terrible movie and we should be ashamed for having watched it, and we were to never watch such a movie again, etc.
