Default Parents of the Year?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,180665,00.html

Or just free spirited thinkers who are oppressed by an overzealous public trying to impose society's view of morality?

I think a nine year old could be a baby sitter for a couple of hours, but these parents didn't even give the kids a number to call for an emergency. I make sure that when my eleven year old is out baby sitting she knows who to call if there are problems. I must be over-protective.

9 year old is not even old enough to watch a sibling of any age.

We didn't even leave my youngest one with my oldest until the oldest was 12.

She had to turn 12 before she could babysit for other people also.

We let my 10 year old babysit her 3 younger sisters quite frequently ... but only when we're just running to the store or someplace else close by. Usually within 15 minutes of home. And she knows the neighbors, doesn't answer the door or phone, etc.

I think it depends on the kid. I have known 12 year olds that I wouldn't trust with my kids but my daughter has been doing it for a while at 10 (almost 11).

We let our younger sons, age 12 and almost 8 stay for an hour or two alone, but frequently within calling distance of their older siblings.

Even our 12 year old has a cell phone. His mother's idea, not mine.

That is just sick.
