My Proposal to End the Holy War
Now that Utah is on the verge of an invite to the Pac 12, I think BYU should discontinue Holy War rivalry. To continue this game will now cost us an OOC game, and I think the cougars should have maximum flexibility in who they schedule for OOC.
Who should we have instead? Don't laugh, I propose Utah State. Their program has been looking up over the last year, and I predict it will get better. They are always good for a conference weekend game, and they already hate us. We've been playing them for years and years, we have history with them. Let's start out with a new rivalry partner, and lets grow the rivalry along with the USU program. A BYU rivalry game would increase their numbers and attendance, which will bring in more money for them to expand. Soon they will be big enough to join the MWC. I'm sure Utah can set up a rivalry game with some school in Colorado, or maybe California. |

I agree. Drop Utah. Don't care if we never play them again.

I would love for Utah to go to the Pac 10 and never have to think about BYU again. Proximity to and associatioin with BYU has been nothing but bad for Utah. The greater distance from BYU the better. We don't want BYU's fleas.

The dirty secret is that most diaspora Mormons such as myself never hated Utah, never cared about Utah. And the rivalry was and is a mystery.
Just another crappy WAC/MWC team that can hardly fill its small stadium. |

the dirty little secret is that sports are not what Utah is all or much about, unlike BYU. You even have hundreds of thousands of people like cougjunkie who are essentially BYU football Mormons.

I also think that Utah in the Pac 12 will continue to be the standardbearer for mormonism, as fans of other schools chant: Go back to Provo! |

The Pac 10 is irrelevant. Almost none of their games play nationally.
The college football fan base on the west coast is weak. The Pac-10 TV contract is terrible. Of course they would want Texas and the Central Time Zone. MWC, for money and eyeballs, is even worse. |

I predict Texas and its idiot cousins go to the SEC. The Big 10 guts the Big East. The old Big 8 (minus Colorado) regroups with the likes of, say, Lousiville, or maybe even BYU or TCU. Utah and Colorado to the Pac 10. A natural order sets in.

Texas will not go to the SEC. That is guaranteed.
