I have never heard of that but let me say that I have seen examples, one that most know is look at the Wesleys. Mekeli Wesley, Tai Wesley, TG Wesley, Tika Wesley all stud basketball players all big kids, all manly men, their little brother is the runt, he is very feminine, he doesnt play sports is in to drama etc, and when the other brothers would play pick up ball or do athletic things they would leave him home to be with mom and cook and clean. NOt sure if it was on purpose, but it fits what is said in this article.

I was watching tv the other day, maybe it was national geographic channel or something, and the promo to a show talked about this.

I had never heard of polynesian transsexuals before.

btw, mikeli passed me the sacrament when he was a deacon (guam).

I note that this tradition, which I have heard of, apparently was never adopted among the Maori.

Mike, isn't there evidence that suggests that in large families with lots of sons, those born later or last having a significantly higher chance of being gay? I wonder if that phenomenon (if true) had anything to do with the Fa'afafine? The article mentions that there is little evidence that the families raised these boys as girls because they had too many sons but rather :

Quote:
Instead, fa'afafine simply start out as boys who do not perform Samoan standards of masculinity, which can be exacting, and who identify and are identified by others as effeminate. The identity is a complex combination of self-identification and other-ascription, and it varies widely in the way in which it manifests itself.
.

I wonder if this is evidence of the multiple brothers/statistically more likely to be born gay phenomenon. (*please note that I realize that not all gays are effiminate and/or have an interest in typically female roles/activities)

Harvey Unga was almost a victim of this practice:

Quote:
UNGA UNVEILED: Things about running back Harvey Unga few know, according to his father, Jackson, are his son used to dress up for Halloween and didn't care what he looked like as long as he had on his new fast shoes; that he once dressed up as a cat on Halloween; and that when 2 and 3 years old, the father used to come home and find that his wife had dressed Harvey up as a girl, complete with lipstick.
"She wanted more girls in the family but I think she just did it to tick me off," said Jackson.
