Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, I just wanted to say how sad I am about this. We spent 4 years in Omaha during grad school and grew to love the town. The people that we met were great - salt of the earth. We actually lived in Bellevue, where this kid was from. My oldest son was born just a couple of miles from the mall where it took place.

I'll never understand the mind of a shooter of this type. Without a doubt he was very disturbed and severely depressed, but still....

An awful tragedy.

He had an SKS. Which is norminally an assault rifle. But is really just a 10 round magazine-top fed semiautomatic rifle that shoots the same rifle round as the AK-47.

About the same cost as a cheap .22 rifle.

Fortunately it is rare that people want to take out their own misery on other people in the form of murder. But it is not rare enough.

He said now he's famous, but in a few weeks no one will remember his name. I can't remember the name of the V-Tech killer anymore. Note to all those wanting to go down in infamy: Instead of shooting at random strangers in a public place, try making a cool video and posting it on You Tube. That is a much better way to get your face seen by millions.
