The scene was cool when Desmond told Hurley about Locke's speech.

Then Desmond caught himself like he knew he slipped up by telling.

What does this mean?

I guess the obvious answer is that Desmond has some sort of ESP, but I HATE those kinds of supernatural explanations.

Good story telling would be that Desmond and Locke were part of some conspiracy and Locke's speech was planned. But that's just impossible with all the rest of facts.
