So you think Pettachi should run the 800 in the next olympics?

Do I believe following Lance's once a year effort in a marathon should take precedence over real events? No. In a time, when BYU basketball is sucking the tits on a boar, and I'm preparing for upcoming season, will I look at something like Lance running an occasional race? Yes. Again, if it bores you, don't watch.

A better analogy would be if Michael Jordan was trying to play in a PGA or even a senior tour event. Nobody is interested in seeing whether a fat and out of shape LA can waddle through some celebrity 10k. Instead, people are curious if one of the most famous endurance athletes of all time can excel in a second endurance sport. Excel is a relative term, of course, becaseu one must factor in his age, etc, but it is still somewhat interessting to follow. It also may shed some light, albeit indirectly, on the drug allegations. Was his famous endurance drug induced? Can he repeat it? As to LA, recall also that he was triathlete when discovered and that he had been a swimmer before that. Running was always his weak link in the tri, as I recall (do I have that right?)

Not accounting for his current training schedule, I wouldn't be surprised to see LA go under 2:30 in Boston this year. Its not a world class time, but certainly good enough to get some serious respect as a 2nd sport.
And Creekster is right about running being the slower of the triathlon events for him in his younger years. |

While running this past weekend, after suffering injury, a nice lady who was passing sad to say, inquired, "you're not really a distance runner are you?" My ego thus deflated, "I stated, I'm just a triathlete trying to improve my weak link," "Oh, your thighs were too big for a runner." "Must be the cycling then."

Did you really just play the "why does anybody care about (insert subject)" card? wow. just. wow. Waters, this is an internet message board - you even created it. On internet message boards, you'll tend to see a variety of subjects discussed. Some folks care about the subject on hand, others don't. If you don't care, you don't need to comment. It's a fairly simple concept, actually. |
