Default Does anyone know that Spitz tried a comeback

to get back to the Olympics at the age of 41? He failed, but his times were the same as his gold-medal times of earlier.

In other words, the rest of the world had gotten faster. However still amazing that his times were the same at that age.

Didn't know that. Being around the age of 41, it's amazing that there are athletes who can continue to be at the same high level at that age as they were 20 years previously.

but his older times had the benefit of new technology, new training techniques, etc.

That's why current times are better than older times.

Spitz's old times were set without goggles. That must have really sucked, and it's no wonder people went faster once they were allowed. I believe the '76 Olympics were the first games where goggles were legal and everyone was talking about goggles the way they've talked about the LZR suit this year. In fact I think I read that the only Olympics that even approached this year's games in WR set were those '76 games when goggles were first allowed.

That's a good point. Still, at that age, being able to do it at that high of a level is amazing.
