It's always weak to use the trick play excuse. Plays are plays. Every play is a trick play. The offense never lines up and says, "we're going to run a sweep. See if you can stop it." All offensive coordinators try to pass when the defense is expecting run. Oklahoma fans bitched about Boise's trick plays. Weak, weak, weak.
