Joseph Smith Translation
What is holding the church back from using the JST of the Bible? Copyright issues?

Good question. I've wondered the same. Doesn't the RLDS church (or whatever they're called now) have the JST as their main translation?

the explanation I've heard is
JS didn't finish it, so we don't want to rely upon an unfinished work.

I also think that it has to do with the Church not wanting others to be able to say, 'Well, the Mormons even have their own bible...they don't even use our Bible.' That would be a disaster. One of the most effective things for a missionary is to be able to say that we believe in the bible and in the book of mormon. If missionaries came out and said, "We believe in our bible.' Well, then you would have some huge obstacles.
