Lovett is clearly country but also very unique. He is well worth a listen.
Country has become the place where miscellaneous "non categorized" music goes now. 10 Years ago would we have heard Bon Jovi or The Boss or John Cougar Melencamp on CMT? No way! But now, there's no real category for them, so they get thrown into the country music scene.

The Dixie Chicks will always be country because they established themselves there and Natalie's voice will always contain that Nazaly Twang to it.
