Have the Democrats ever run a moderate, fiscally conservative candidate for President
I've searched my memory, and can't think of one during the 21st and 20th centuries.
Obama, radical left. Kerry. same. Gore. same. Clinton. same but drifted toward the middle with Republican Congress. Dukakis, Carter, more of the same. McGovern and Humprheys. LBJ, I can't remember his economics, and only remember how corrupt he was. Kennedy. Stevenson? What were his economic policies. FDR, and those before, I'd have to simply read about. So hope for a moderate, unifying voice from the Democratic Party is a chimera. It is not happened during this past century, so nobody should expect anything else. The closest we've come to unifying voices were Eisenhower and Reagan, both popular Republicans. Historians will have you believe FDR, but how much of his popularity was tied to WWII? Teddy Roosevelt was popular at the beginning of the 20th, so for whatever reason, Dems do better at local level promising pork but as statesmen, historically they are divisive and petty. We'll see how that bodes should as predictions indicates, win. We're in for four more years of hell, boys and girls.

Clinton was the most fiscally conservative president in memory. He actually ran a surplus.
Bush is probably the least fiscally cnoservative president in memory. And he's a Republican. |

FDR is the father of today's income tax.
I'd say that he's not fiscally conservative.

He increased taxes, lived off the tech bubble that burst during Bush's years. Fiscally conservative in government terms means both sides of the equation, lowering taxes and spending less than your bring in. By virtue of unique circumstances and a Republican Congress Clinton benefited from unusually economic circumstances. He was not fiscally conservative as I define it. Bush is a f...ing Democrat, and we Republicans should amend history books to reflect that. He spends too much f...ing money.

JFK was probably the most fiscally responsible of the past 50 years.

What were the top marginal income tax rates under his administration? And what did he do to modify them:?

If you really understood ALL his policies, you'd find he was leaning conservative, especially in comparison with all the dems today. I lived through his presidency and marginal tax rates were just one item. The dems today want to tax and spend at a much greater rate than JFK ever did. I'm not a dem, but I'd vote for him today over either option. This year won't make much diff no matter who wins, imo.
