*** Weirdest misson foods ***
Let's make this more interesting.
I have 2 submissions. Both were served to me in WV. 1. Squirrel gravy. 2. Fresh Turtle soup (turtle he pulled out of the Ohio river that morning) The squirrel gravy wasn't too bad ... just gamey. The soup was disgusting. |

Sea turtle and sea turtle eggs.
Most digusting thing I saw: a just-killed dog, picking out the heart worms by hand. (Yes, they ate dog, but I was never offered any). |

Every kind of fish, cooked and uncooked, that you can imagine.
It was kinda weird but mainly just gross, but I had a companion that bragged about his spaghetti...it was cooked noodles with a potfull of ketchup, salt and onions. Yes, it was as bad as it sounds. I had one tiny bite and that was all. My companion was never allowed to cook again. |

Mmm... henikisoa sy ravitoto.
Start with rice that's laced with pebbles. Bite too hard on the wrong forkful and lose a tooth. Then add fatty pork that has skin and hair still attached. Liberally add ground-up leaves from a yam-like plant. Grind them so fine you can mold the stuff into a statue if you want. Tastes like grass. Wow was that stuff gross. Probably the favorite food of 80% of Malagasys. |

Boiled octopus had the same consistency as rubber, tasted very fishy and the suction cups on the tentacles would stick to your tongue briefly, then release making a loud popping sound.
Fresh squid (the entire thing) chopped and then fried on a grill. Smother it in the squid's ink and you're good to go.

Dog and iguana - both were good.
In the Philippines it is very popular among missionaries to get a picture of themselves eating Balut. It's really cool to pose with the duckling head hanging out of your mouth. I never tried balut because I thought it was disgusting and unappetizing. I only ate wierd things if they were appetizing. |

Octopus and squid--good. One of my fav dishes still is a squid with vegetables in a spicy, red sauce with rice. Squid jerky was interesting.
Raw sea food--fish (like it better raw), eel (yuck), squid (like it better cooked) etc. Dog--also good. Served in Korea in a stew with tons of ginseng and other strong flavors. Very masculine--rare for women to eat. Kimche is hard to get used to but hardly anyone doesn't like it after eating a few times. Dwen jang is a really strong miso. Smells bad but is delicious. Worst was sea horse in a sea food soup. Sea weed soup is also hard to get used to. Dried sea weed is great--eat it like it's a snack food. |
