This is how it SHOULD be done...
Larry Miller decides not to run Brokenback Mountain. Why? Because he doesn't want to. He knows his audience and knows that he'll catch flack from that audience for running that flick. If Larry didn't fear some sort of moral backlash he wouldn't have thought twice about running the flick...
So... What's wrong with that? That is how it SHOULD be. Enough of this whining and crying for the government to censor things and control what does and doesn't come in to our neighborhoods, let the all mighty dollar decide. Take the movie Hostel for example... If enough people called Larry Miller and told him they were offended that he would run such an "evil" film, he'd pull it. No need to write a new law, no need to fine anybody, just hit them right where it hurts. In the wallet. For the record... I'm not saying that Larry should have pulled Brokeback Mountain. Frankly, I don't care. However, I cringe when people call a decision made by a private business owner "censorship." Censorship is when the government steps in and tells you what you can and can not see. This is a matter of a business acting upon what it feels are the wishes of its customers. |

I couldn't agree more, let the voice of the people decide.

I watched the Crying Game in Provo near downtown.
Hardly anyone in the theater. I still remember the lady's gasp at the pivotal scene. The lady several seats away. |

the scene was so predictable. My friend thought it was hilarious, but I found myself stupid for wasting my time therein.

As a business owner he clearly has that right, just as we've the right to go see it or not.
It's not my cup of tea, but whatever works for others. |

what is the principle that is being applied here by Miller?
Capitalism. If it were principles , there would be scores of films he wouldn't show. |

I have no idea why anyone would complain about this happening. |
