This is like the family that whines because they spent a huge amount of dough to replace their Chevy Astrovan (King Dome) with both a Hummer (Qwest Field) and a Mercedes (Safeco), and now that their other vehicle (Key Arena) needs some work they are flat out of cash and credit. Personally I don't like that the rich owners are always demanding improvements and that the NBA limits expansion to help the owners in such hostage situations. The easy answer for KC and OKC would have been to expand the league by two more teams. But, its a fact of modern life there is competition for pro sports teams. There is a very nice arena in OKC, and it will even get more improvements if a referendum passes Tuesday. This arena is also used for the minor league hockey team, concerts, Big-12 playoffs, and other sporting events, so its not entirely all for the NBA. |
