Default Last night I watched Double Indemnity

for the first time in years. Barbara Stanwyck can flat-out act. Ed Robinson is one of those actors who deserves more noteriety than he gets. Even Fred MacMurray was great.

Noir is great when it's done well. The Big Sleep, Sunset Blvd., Double Indemnity, The Maltese Falcon, The Postman Always Rings Twice...

I saw a made for TV remake of Double Indemnity the other night on the Sleuth channel. It was done in the early eighties and was just attrocious. I need to check out the real thing.

The original is where it's at. In the 70s there was a remake with Richard Crenna, but go for the oldie. Noir was meant to be in B & W.

I watched Double Indemnity last night. Outstanding. Weird to see Fred MacMurray in a role like that. But he was great.

If I see this, will it ruin the image I have of MacMurray as Lemuel Siddons in "Follow Me, Boys"?

LOL. Without a doubt.

A few weeks ago I watched "Once Upon a Time in the West" for the first time (I am watching quite a few classics lately). Pretty shocking to see blue-eyed Henry Fonda to be such a ruthless villain. It's fun to see actors step out of their stereotypical roles and pull it off so well.

I agree about seeing actors play roles that are, for them, out of character. Seeing Robert De Niro in "Awakenings" was great, but it was even better seeing him as a wussy cop in "Mad Dog and Glory". And Bill Murray was out of character in that same film as the Mob boss.

I guess I ought to start seeing some of these older films. I think they're much better than what is coming out today.
