The Work and the Glory would have been 10x better had they cast Chuck Norris as Joseph Smith.

This seems to be the formula for Mormon cinema:

Hire Kirby: 30,000 bucks
Write Crappy Script: Free
Film the thing: 150,000 bucks

Release the film to a Utah theater audience: Make $500,000
Release to dvd: Make another $100,000

As long as people keep going to see the things there's no reason to expect the films will ever get better. They don't need to, as plenty of profit is being made. I personally haven't seen one since "The Home Teacher". That was the single worst piece of cinema I've ever watched.

Have you not seen Somewhere in Time? Titanic? Pearl Harbor? While You Were Sleeping?

Blech!

Default Dutcher may be a singular talent

The first God's Army gets by on cultural stereotypes, but he does show that he knows how to give characters some depth.

Even with its faults, Brigham City was a move in the right direction.

I haven't seen his latest one yet, but people who actually know film say its good so I'll check it out.

Hale-Storm has put out some real garbage. I can sort of like the Singles Ward in that one kitschy, making-fun-of-the-Mormon-culture movie might actually evidence that Mormons can laugh at themselves, but all subsequent attempts at the formula have been a total waste.

Other Mormon films are beneath mention.

The chick who played Charly is smoking hot. A bit skinny for my taste but beautiful nonetheless.

That's a perfect explanation of the state of Mormon cinema.
