Default What does it take to get a 13 year old to Eagle?

Answer:

Lots and lots of screaming and yelling.

Phrases such as "you're the meanest dad in the whole world become commonplace."

After finishing all but his final board of review, "wow, I'm sure glad I did that and it's done."

Hmmm. Mean dad.

Congrats. That's great for you and him.

Btw, that is pretty much the same thing it takes to get a 17 on the very verge of being 18 year old to an Eagle, except you have about 4.5 years to fool around first.

Bravo. Give him my best.

We have two down, one to go. Just need to finish the eagle project.

He's in heaven, his local stake reviewer, Bruce Johnson knows you and is in water purefication as a Chemical/civil engineer. So Archaea Junior will get tours of water treatment facilities.

OldManMeanie's method:

Not sign for my driver's license. I didn't think he would go through with his threats and would end up letting me drive so I called his bluff and didn't get my Eagle. Unfortunately for me, OldManMeanie held firm and thus I didn't get my driver's license until I was almost 17 (got my license the week after I finished my Board of Review).

My Eagle award is completely meaningless to me for two reasons:

1. I was forced to do it
2. So many people in Utah have Eagles that it just isn't as significant as it is in other parts of the country.

Congrats to your boy. It's an effort worth praising.

For me, gettin my Eagle at 13 was easy, as my motivation was that my Dad was my Scoutmaster and he told me that I could quit scouting as soon as I got my Eagle.

Simple as that.

That's my boy's reward. Now he can focus upon school and sports with no interruption from scouting. Mission accomplished, award not til August.

I must have been a camping nerd. I did basically everything there was to do to earn my eagle by the time I was 13, but then just kind of dragged my feet until I was 15 when I earned my eagle officially. I however enjoyed scouting. I loved going on camping trips, moutain biking and learning new things and hanging out with my friends. After I turned 16 though and I could drive scouting still lost its luster...
