Default shotguns

Had fun shooting trap with the scouts. I was the designated pigeon thrower (by hand) for most of the time. After watching the scouts struggle for the most part (and the 2 adults with little shooting experience). I took 3 shells, and obliterated all 3 clay pigeons. I handed the rifle to the next scouts and said, "Gentlemen, that's how it is done."

They may think I am arrogant and that I think I know everything. They are right.

So, I'm thinking about getting a shotgun. I've had my eye on the cheap but good Remington 870 express for a long time. I think Zulu has a 11-87 semi. What's the advantage in having an auto? I presume it can make shooting 2 pigeons in the same throw a little easier. Probably better for hunting also. Of course, it is about 3 times more expensive than the 870 express.

oh, another example of lack of insight among the scouts.

One of them brought several aerosol cans. I asked him why. He said, "to throw up in the air and shoot them with the shotgun."

"With the gun you brought, I presume?"

He then had the chutzpah to try and sneak an aerosol can onto the pistol range later.

He will be lucky to survive til 18. I hope he is never allowed to drive. Ever.

He is also the kid I had to tell not to wave molten red metal in other scouts faces. Also the one that smeared berries over several other scouts uniforms, ruining them.

His career goal? "Professional Scouter."

They should also kow that you are deadly with a weapon in hand and that it would be in their best interest to not cross you.

You using the shotgun to hunt, shoot trap?

I have two Brownings, one BPS, and one Gold, the BPS is a pump and the gold is semi-auto, I take the BPS with me when I hunt duck.

I have a carbon fiber Mossberg 500. Which i took the plug out of, it holds 6 shells right now, it helps when i hunt pheasant because i seem to always miss with the first 3 shots.

Hope you don't get stopped as it's illegal to pull the plug.

I like to hunt, not go on rampages, thus I prefer the slower moving BPS. I am not into quick hunting and I like the gamesmanship and slower pace of the pump action.

If you are using your gun for trap shooting, the Gold is a must as it's not much fun to pump when shooting skeet.

Depending on how much, how often you will hunt I would never prefer a gun above the BPS.
