Default Sad about Ryan Leaf

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4250326

He climbed to the top of the sports world, then crashed and burned, then finally gets to a good place where he is doing some small-time coaching and talking about how much he loves life, and now this.

Probably the most famous person to ever come from Great Falls, MT.

well, GF has so much going for it, really. . . I'm not going to take that bait.

What's stranger (and also sad) to me: I knew Ryan Leaf when he was 15-16ish. We weren't close, and I didn't follow his football career. So when I think of him, all I see is this young kid I was editing on the hs newspaper. My mental picture doesn't fit with the life he has lived. Yep, sad.

What's sad about it? He did this to himself.

Not when it's of their own doing, especially a celebrity of some sort.

If had had no part of it - like a drunk getting behind the wheel of a car and crashing into his car - then yes, I would feel badly for him.

wouldn't you feel bad if you son threw his life away?

Ryan Leaf is somebody's son.

He's not my son.

I won't worry about how I'd feel about my son throwing his life away until he actually throws it away.

One of my admitted weaknesses is lack of empathy/sympathy for idiots.
