"That's why I say I, like every American I'm speaking with, we're ill about this position that we have been put in ... where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Um, helping, oh -- it's got to be all about job creation too. Shoring up our economy, and putting it back on the right track. So healthcare reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade, we've got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, um, scary thing, but 1 in 5 jobs being created in the trade sector today. We've got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that."

Of course, I wanted her to roam free because she was clearly incompetent (guess what...).
I don't think the Palin of the Gibson/Couric interviews could have bested the Republican establishment in Alaska, beat the incumbent governor by a healthy margin (8 points), and two years later still have 80% approval rating.

Obviously something needs to change--I'm not sure who or what is holding her back, but calling her incompetent based on a pair of 10-minute interviews is pretty stupid. Kathleen Parker is overreacting.

Whoever Palin's handlers are need to be fired. The quality of her interviews is going downhill, and this answer is a perfect illustration of why: they are strangling her with talking points, lists, and instructions. Palin is at her best when she's able to speek freely.

And she really needs to work on speaking in declarative sentences. The quoted sentence is atrocious.

We should drop her off in nowhere Mongolia with a coat and a knife, and say "if you get back alive, you will be ready."

There will need to be no questions asked. No, not a manimal, she will have transcended this sphere, and become a goddess.

Irrelevant. Prison or no, they wield a lot of political power and did not support Palin's nomination.

An 80% approval rating? Wow, 450,000 people approve of her!

She is lost out there.

Tex should go find and comfort her.
How about this gem:

Quote:
With McCain now depicting himself as the doctor ready to deliver tough medicine to Wall Street, Couric asked Palin to explain what measures he had pushed in the past.

Palin raised McCain's support of revamped oversight for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two mortgage giants that are on life support. Fine.

But when the network anchor pressed for other examples, given that the Republican has been in Congress for nearly three decades, Palin came up blank.

"I'll try to find some" -- Palin smiled at Couric -- "and bring them to you."

I agree. It's an impressive feat for any politician.

Not as impressive when her daughter is out stumping the electorate.
