The hospitals pay a lot of money for people to go practice down in the valley. However, the caveat is that you will be sued and you better like where you live b/c you won't get credentialed at any other hospital.
I Corpus Christi, out in front of the county funded hospital there is a trailer (shack) with a big billboard that says in english and spanish..Bad Outcome? and an arrow pointing down. You have a poor, uneducated community that is preyed upon by starving trial lawyers. No way in hell I practice down in the valley. You can't win for trying. Really what the lawyers are doing is hurting the people and driving away access to medical care. What needs to happen: 1) Doctors should be able to sue plaintiff attorneys is the lawsuit is found to be frivolous or malicious, for costs, and damages. 2) If you receive government funded health care, as part of the deal you limit your ability to sue. You must prove negligence. AND the case is litigated in a state court, not the local jury made up of the plaintiff's peers. |
