BYU receives a lot of attention by virtue of its sports program. Naturally, negotiating an excuse why BYU would allow it will take some finesse, but principles have evolved and BYU has chosen to participate.

This concept is unlikely to be accepted by leadership and unlikely to be accepted by the students at large, but if the school abandoned sports, it would be a huge mistake. Much of the bonding between students, alumni and school start and end with sports.

The Church makes a lot of decisions based upon financial considerations. I hope they pursue a more inspired path about not abandoning sports.

Not an easy decision. I just can't bring myself to sign off on the death of byu sports. No ainge. No jimmer. No Steve young. No 1984.

Sad state of affairs.
