Latest Rasmussen has Romney up five in Florida
Interesting that the poll was done yesterday while the press was peeing all over itself over McCain.

Is it possible that Giuliani detracts from McCain?
I dunno. Strange but I'm not predicting anything. If McCain wins Florida, then I believe he's the Rep nominee.

It seems that every TV news report, internet article, or newspaper article I read over the weekend spoke only of McCain vs. Huckabee. And how McCain is now the clear frontrunner.

It might be McCain's by default. I wonder if it bothers Mike that the Reps will have an anti torture candidate that he can't rail against.

The betting market isn't ignoring the information. McCain is still ahead but it is close. Romney is trading $23 higher since the open today and McCain is down $17.

I think McCain has hit his highwater mark. He hasn't been that popular among Republicans, appealing more to independents that opt to vote in the primaries. His numbers among Republicans are horrible. He actually garnered less of the vote in S. Carolina this time than in 2000. 67% of the voters preferred other options. Florida does not allow independents to vote in the primary, like a lot of other primaries from here on out. He faces the same problems Huckabee faces; limited appeal and money.

Additionally, current angst about the economy plays right into Romney's hands.

That way, the real vote for change would be the Democrat candidate, whoever it might end up being. They are promoting him today, to villify him in the fall.

McCain won't be the nominee for the Republican party. I think his bubble is about to burst. I do find it odd that Romney is getting so little attention right now, when to me, he is the clear front-runner (especially now that Thompson is almost certain to get out). Romney, I believe, leads the delegate count right now and looks very good to win Florida. |
