I'm actually surprised you two feel that way.
Miracles never cease. It does a little too late. His death would have meant more a couple of years ago. By now, the terroist network probably doesn't depend as much upon him as it would have when he was setting it up, but I could be wrong.

I do indeed give excellent backrubs, though now that your account is past due, you shouldn't expect any more anytime soon. This is merely symbolic for the US (I think). I doubt al-Zarqawi has had much control over operations for quite some time since he has been on the constant run. Even if purely symbolic, it is a great victory for the US and hopefully can lead to some higher measure of peace over there. |

It is something for us to jump up and down and get excited about, at the most.
Frankly, if I were running the insurgency, I would settle everyone down. No attacks, stock pile munitions, get people into the military, police, government and let the American's think that they did it and won. After the American's leave, unleash a better coordinated, stronger attack against the infrastructure and government. Without the Americans to back em, the government would topple. |

I think that once we leave, they will have a civil war. Once that happens and they are done kicking the shit out of each other they will form a government over there that everyone can work with. And I think this will be okay. Because they know that the world will be watching. And if we don't agree with it we will roll in there again and use our "Easy" button and help them start over.

If we leave and it devolves into a civil war, I think you underestimate their willingness to continue kicking the crap out of each other until there is nobody left to kill. Kind of like the story in Ether. Battles in the Middle East have been raging for thousands of years. If this one flares up, it won't stop anytime soon. |

Just leaving Iran and Syria has really improved the situation.
I didn't advocate this war, believing it was ill-advised, contrary to normal principles of self-defense. That area is simply crazy. It doesn't function upon European or even Far Eastern principles of rationality. Containment may be the only principle which is semi-functional. How do we contain Iran now that it is becoming a nuclear power? Very disconcerting.

If the morons want to beat each other over the head with rocks until they end up killing everyone. Okay by me.
