Unintended consequences of an LDS lifestyle
Sometimes it's tough to live an LDS lifestyle - especially for teenagers or singles. Two areas, though, where my LDS upbringing has paid off:
1. Public Speaking. I'm consistently surprised by how poorly my students do when giving presentations to the class. I know they can take speech classes, but the LDS practice of regular teaching and speaking in front of groups is a big advantage. 2. Lab research. There are a couple of food labs on campus that are always looking for subjects to test. They look for healthy, non-smokers who don't drink too much. Needless to say, at this campus, they're always desperate for subjects. I've made hundreds of dollars, and get free food, for doing these studies. Anyone found similar, ancillary benefits to an LDS lifestyle?

When we are out of town my associates never invite me to go to the strip clubs with them.

Callings force people to be come managers, often from an early age. I remember planning activities throughout the my time in the Aaronic Priesthood. I've noticed my wife, a convert, as she tackles YW Pres and RS Pres callings, and how that has helped her become a manager. While it is for the most part on the job training, it is valuable experience.

When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith. |

Going on a mission helps you learn how to live with someone you despise, without killing that person, and getting some things done.

For many of us its the knowledge of another language and for a good portion of missionaries these are languages that can become very helpful in the business world.
The social networking is also big. When someone takes a job in Michigan, memphis or whereever they instantly have a group of people to relate to.
