Thanks.... Interesting that most of Wyoming UNLV and NM wins were against current conference foes...

True, although to be fair, New Mexico still has the second most quality wins even if we throw out current conference members as opponents:

Thanks for this! This is so telling. Where the conference's best win is against Utah can we just say Utah got the best win? What is Utah supposed to do, beat itself? For example, in 1997 Utah finished in the (voting) polls no.2 in the nation.

Yes Utah had some great seasons. How much did you contribute?

As Archaea points out, Utah had some very nice wins and seasons in the late 90s. I can't remember a single instance where a BYU fan on cougarguard has suggested otherwise. However, if we split the sample in half and look at end of year top-25 non-conference wins in the second half of the sample (00-01 to 04-05) we get the following:

Code:
      +-----------------------------------------------------------+
      | team yr opp scored allowed opprank |
      |-----------------------------------------------------------|
 448. | BYU 2002 Stanford 81 76 23 |
 505. | BYU 2004 Oklahoma St 76 71 2 |
2371. | Utah 2005 Oklahoma 67 58 20 |
2575. | Wyoming 2002 Gonzaga 73 66 14 |
      +-----------------------------------------------------------+
I don't point this out to suggest that BYU was better during those five years. You have to give the nod to Utah because of the sweet 16 run in 2005 (Utah's median end of year massey rating was also a slightly better: 40 vs 41). On the other hand, it does suggest that things have changed dramatically since the late 90s. BYU and Utah have been pretty close of late, and relative to at least one metric BYU did slightly better.

Nice, I often think this same question when I see fanboys proclaiming "yeah, we did it!"

The culture of fandom is absurd. Despite that ludicracy, I come back every year.

We didn't do shit; our boys did well.

Hey Pelagius, what are the odds that a MWC team will win the conference titles in football, mens and womens basketball all in the same season, as Utah did in such dominating fashion (losing only three combined games) only two years ago?

Since there are 9 conference teams, I assume the odds of winning one title is 9:1. So to win both at once, are the odds 9x9, in other words, 81:1? Then to win all three, is it 81x9, or 729:1?
