So, the Patriots are cheaters
It'll be interesting to see what their justification is for video taping the Jets defensive signals.
What must Eric Mangini be thinking right about now? He's a former Bellicheck guy, and his old boss is stealing defensive signals...that's pretty low! Apparently it could cost the team draft picks. Goddel wants to send a message, but has already said that he won't take a first rounder from them...but maybe a second and a fourth. So, what should happen to the Patriots?

Did Mangini tip the NFL off about this?

As I understand the story, an NFL official spotted the Patriots employee filming the Jets on the Jets sideline...I doubt Mangini had anything to do with it.

Other teams have complained about this with the Pats. Green Bay security guards observed them doing the same thing last season but nobody got the tape. There is talk that many teams do this, but apparently the Patriots really suck at hiding it.

All I know is that the interviews with LT and Favre this morning on Sportscenter were pretty hilarious. LT couldn't even keep a straight face while he was talking about it.

More cheating in pro sports. Nice.
The whole world has indeed gone crazy.

Jim Rome said that Mangini tipped them off because he hates Belechick and he knew thats one of the things the patriots did. So he tipped the NFL off.
I am going to guess that this is a lot more common than we think, especially considering that the NFL issued a statement to every team at the beginning of the year about how it is against the rules.

Did you see Bellicheck's press conference the other day? He said there was nothing in the Rulebook that explicitly forbid what they did.
As though it's not OBVIOUS. I can only assume the Rulebook also doesn't explicitly address spooning with the cheerleaders on the sidelines. Matt Leinart, I hope you are reading this. |

So, Bellicheck gets a $500,000 fine and if the pats make the playoffs, they lose a 2008 first round pick...if they miss the playoffs, they lose a 2nd and 3rd rounder.
Interesting punishment. Seems fair, although a suspension would've sent the harsh message the Goddel is trying to send. It'll be interesting to see where this goes from here. As for Bellicheck and Mangini, I wonder if when Mangini was interviewing with the Jets, he sought Bellichecks advice and was told that he wasn't ready to be a head coach, but he proceeded with the interview process anyway. You don't see Bellicheck doing this kind of stunt when he plays the Browns.
