I hate both of these teams so I don't have a dog in this fight but I believe this is the first time I've ever read championship smack related to the Golden State Warriors. I'm 37 and I can't remember any Warriors championship which likely means it happened in the 70's when I didn't care. There definitely IS a statute of limitations on championship smack; let's be reasonable here.

You should tell that to the Knicks. They haven quite received that message yet....

I dont follow either team, either. but there is no SOL for titles. If your team won a title, you are on the list. The Jazz are not on that list. Neither are the Grizzlies or the Raptors.

Win one first, then you can talk.

Or......simply enjoy the meaningless regular season winzz!

What about playoff wins? Do those count for anything?

Good grief, you're telling me the Hawks are on "the list" because they won a title in 1958 when they were in St. Louis? That Princeton is on "the list" because they won an NCAA football championship in 1869?

As a Jazz fan, I have to defer to Atlanta because of something that happened 50 years ago?

You've got to be trolling here.

If nobody on your current team was alive when your team last won a championship then said championship should not be used in any sort of smack. If the players from your last championship team are advertising Viagra and have grandkids, then said championship should not be used in any sort of smack.

All I know is that you hang that banner in the rafter, it stays up there forever. You have won a championship.

If you are advocating that after a passage of time, they no longer matter, then so be it.

I am not trolling. If you dont win a ring, then ultimately, it doesnt matter too much.

Playoff wins are exciting, if that is your goal.

You think Dan Marino wouldnt trade some of his ultimately meaningless indivudal records for a Superbowl ring...even today? And would Brett Farve trade his one Superbowl ring to have some of Marino's individual records? not sure...

I'm saying you don't use your 1977 NBA championship to claim your NBA team is better than team X this year. No, championships don't expire but their relevance to the talent of the current team does.

OK, this is fair. how far back does your "current" team go?

Earlier, there was a discussion about last year's Jazz team and Warrior's team and subsequent comparisons of "relative awesomeness" of this year's teams based on last year's results.

Technically, this season has not started yet, so how can one team be better than another?

IMO, there has to be at least one player of significance on the current team tied to the team you're bragging about. For me a coach doesn't count. So, as far as I know Utah cannot brag about it's finals appearances in the 90's relative to the current team.

As long as we're talking smack based on champs of yesteryear, nobody could touch the Utah Stars in '70-'71! ABA Champs Baby!!
