I am a BoSox fan and I think this trade is fantastic for the Sox. Manny was clearly not going to exercise any option years with the BoSox, so this year would be it for Manny and the Sox anyways. Why not get something for him? Not only did the Sox get someone decent, they got someone whose numbers are almost identical to Manny's and who is several years younger and a thousand times less crazy. Manny is a great player, but he can take his antics to the Dodgers and the Sox shouldn't even notice a big drop off in production from Bay.

Great trade. Well done Sox!

You do realize Manny is probably the best right handed hitter in the past 50 years? Without Manny the Red Sox do not have 2 WS rings and would not be position to make a serious push for a third in 5 years.

Manny is a great hitter, but I'll see Manny and raise you Harmon Killebrew as far as great right handed hitters are concerned.

Yes. Manny is a great hitter. But you do realize that he was about to leave the BoSox (leaving them with nothing in return), was causing chaos in the clubhouse right now at a time when they can't afford a big distraction, was putting up numbers this year which were comparable to those of Bay, and is (I think) 5 years older than Bay?

Just what did the Sox have to lose in this one? Another 2.5 months of service from a player who stated clearly he had no desire to play for the Sox now or ever?

I have not heard or read one report that insinuates Manny's usage of PEDs.

Does Manny now become the face of the modern day slugger and go down as the best hitter for average and power of the past 50? (I think A-Rod was dirty, dude lost 15 lbs in an off season)
