Close your eyes, think real hard and go back to your original comment about not making the HS volleyball team. Remember? You are the one that said it. It was your comment about not making the HS VB team that I was responding to. DO you now want to talk about the national teams and racial diversity? That seems like a slightly different issue, doesn't it? Or maybe this all goes back to the unassailable machismo of Texans (even non-native ones, I presume)?
the reason there are no black players--because volleyball is not a major, serious sought-after sport. Geeky gangly nerds like Ryan Millar can be best in the world.

Perhaps, but that is still a different issue. You were talking about HS VB teams and not making them. (And you may notice that the ganlgy Caucasians are frequently playing gangly blacks from other countries, but I guess that doesn't count).

Wait a second. You just told us at the beginning of this thread that the reason US Track and Field sucks is because track is not a serious, sought after sport in this country. But the track team is what, maybe 85-90% black?

Comments like these make me think you should just avoid the sports forums most of the time.

Hello? Earth to California. What states have high school male volleyball teams?

Yeah, track is not sought after. But it's 100x more sought after than volleyball. Pull your head out.

Done. I've also added volleyball to the list of sports in which you could easily qualify for the Olympics.

Nice...

I would put a lot of money on any one of the men's volleyball players against Waters in basketball. Or women's volleyball players. Or any sport of his choice.

X sport is a serious sport because ER Cougar is not good enough to qualify for the Olympics in it.

Intelligent diagnosis, doctor.

Back to the original topic...
They had a little discussion between commentators about how badly they've underperformed. Much was attributed to the leadership change earlier in the year. I have no idea how accurate this is, but Bob Costas pointed out that on the 4x100 men's relay, the runners were wearing these goofy, hand-written USA markers that looked like they just pulled out a sharpie, wrote USA on a piece of paper and pinned it on. Does seem to speak to a lack of organization.

And while you're right about jeremy what's-his-face, sprinters (US and otherwise) always seem to be cocky jerks, nothing new. Tyson Gay actually seems like a decent guy, an exception that proves the rule. Problem is, he lost.
