Default Beck is done in Miami

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/fo...ry/995755.html

With the Fins drafting Pat White, I think it is official.

Will a team trade for him? Not necessarily. Why trade for him, when you can pick him up after he is released?

The Cowboys were making noise about picking him up last season, but now that they have drafted Stephen McGee from A&M, it is doubtful that Beck would be pursued.

Well, my knack for good ol' common sense prevails again.

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/fo...y/1020831.html

Beck released, not traded.

As the article says, he was released likely (certainly IMO) because no team was willing to trade for him. Miami had already shown their cards, no reason to trade for a player that is not going to make the roster anyway.

Article points out how classy Beck was in leaving, calling and thanking many employees.

The timing is good for Beck, because hopefully he will find a team that thinks he will make the roster (and vice versa). Better to be released now than later.

I have no idea what team would be interested in signing Beck. Probably not the Cowboys, as I mentioned. They think they have landed the big kahuna in Stephen McGee (makes me want to puke). McGee couldn't do a two-receiver progression if his life depended on it.

So instead of thinking "what team do I think he will land with" you think "what team do I WANT him to be on."

I have no freaking idea. Hopefully a team that is on TV a lot, but still has a shot of getting PT.

Beck's done-zo as a traditional back up.

The only way he has a chance on a team is as a third QB.

Making a squad is the goal. That is assumed.

Save small parts of the Super Bowl, I watch no pro ball. But for those who do, why is Beck unable to stay with a team but guys such as the TAMU Aggies able to do so?

What does Beck lack? Is it primarily size?

I would have thought he were good enough to be a backup but that shows my inability to size up Pro talent.

People keep young backups for primarily one reason: they think they might have potential to be a starter someday.

Now, not all backups are young QBs. Some of them are experienced dudes who have proven themselves competent are kept on as insurance.

In the case of Miami, Beck was neither. No potential to be a starter, worthless as insurance.

Here is a source that says Lions might pick up Beck.

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW...holm042809.htm

Beck will never see the field in such a case, barring injuries. The Lions spent 40+ million guaranteed on Stafford, they are not going to go with Beck, even if Beck is better.

What prevents him from being a competent if not starless starter?

Of the dozens of starters many are relatively mediocre. How many good starting QBs are in the NFL? Six?

So you believe he has it physically, but not mentally?

What's the difference, besides physical demands, of the pro game mentally?
