My cycling mentor told me that the 5 hour century only counts when you count all the time (not just rolling time).

FWIW.

Btw, that was hilarious Pride, your post. I'm proud of you that you manned up and finished.

Your mentor was right. I would have liked to have seen what we could have done without the crash.

Sounds like you guys were really riding your bikes like you stole them. Don't stop for the crash, don't stop for the lunch, and you're there.

So...century times are not just "ride times"...it's "overall time"?

Nuts. I was hoping I could break the 5 hour mark "ride time". Looks like I'm going to have to do a LOT more training.

I think part of the reason is that recovery is a huge advantage. If I ride for 3 hours, then take a 30 minute break, the next two hours of riding will go much better than if I only stopped for 2 minutes to refill liquids.

So the time or two I did a sub 5 hr century I only stopped twice. And as quickly as possible.

Realistically you need to have your average something like 22 in the first half of the ride, because you will slow with the stops, and less pacelining, and less energy in the last half.

Yeah, I brought my suitcase of agony and I wanted to unpack it by myself.
