Default Triathlons

So, how many tri competitors are there around here anyway?

What distance?
Iron? Half-iron? Sprint? Other?

I've been known to make occasional (unimpressive) showings in tris, myself, so I was jc.

I've done a couple of sprint triathlons in another lifetime. My favorite distance, due to my mediocrity, is 1/2 mile swim, 20-30 mile bike and 4-6 mile run.

I've enjoyed them in the past. It sure does take a lot of time to train, which is something I am lacking right now.

Archaea is our in-house triathlon expert. I think bigpiney is also quite competitive.

I started tris two and one half years ago.

At that time, I was a weight lifter, jogger.

However, I rarely do things half-hearted. Since that time, I've done two Irons, 8 halves with my next next weekend, and five Olympics. It's just something I do for fun, as my times, due to work are not progressing as I would like.

Nonetheless, considering some of the stuff I've endured and physical limitations, I'm happy to be competing.

Default Okay...

I'm just going to go back to being pathetic now.

I'm with Bluegoose. I don't know how anyone has time to train for an iron.

You know... it'd be a lot easier if they limited it to one event. Like, say swimming only.

I could do that.

Oh, and good luck next weekend, Archaea!

You train with fifteen to twenty-five hours of workouts.

Three days per week, swimming, at least three running and four biking.

It's fun and tough.

This one will be the 70.3 worlds in Clearwater. I'm just participating with no visions of glory. It's been a long season and I might be a little flat.

Default hm...

Dude, that's insane.
I could never pull that off.
What with the two kids, the job, the house, the dogs. Oh, and the husband.

How does ANYBODY pull that off?

Maybe it gets easier when the kids are a little older and self-sufficient-ish.

Or maybe if I forego sleep...

Nah, probably not worth it.

I think I'll stick to the sprints.

My sister just finished her second Iron this year in Kona(one in Idaho in June and the second in Hawaii in October), and yes, she's the Cross Country coach for her high school and middle school in Ohio, has five kids, teaches our Church seminary and takes care of our mother. So it just seems natural in our family.

No we don't sleep much. Most mornings start at 4, but sometimes at 3.

A guy i work with did the Florida Ironman yesterday. He was an emotional wreck and suffered from serious depression, he weighed close to 400lbs, and turned to swimming to battle his depression and get in shape. 2 years later he has lost 180 pounds, and is competing in his first ironman. You can read his blog at www.triracer.com

My co-worker did his first ironman yesterday and finished with a time of 13:21. I dont think this guy could care less about the time, just that he finished.
